Outside Inn Family Tree Research

Roots and Routes in Shelburne County

Research your family history at the Shelburne County Archives and Genealogical Society.

You’ll recognize you’re speaking with a Nova Scotian when you hear questions like: ‘ Who are or were your parents?’, ‘ What part of Nova Scotia are you connected with?’,  and the standard ‘Who’s your father?’

At The Cooper’s Inn B&B there’s rarely a day goes by that we don’t make some sort of connection. Often it’s between guests and more often between Pat or David and at least one guest.

Folks, just like you, from all parts of the world are curious about their ancestry.  Is it time to start or expand your exploration? Discover ‘life beyond the ordinary’ by visiting  Shelburne this year. Perhaps we’ll make a connection?

When all routes suggest you’ll be able to broaden knowledge of your family tree by visiting Shelburne County and Historic Shelburne the first connection on the genealogical track may be with a Shelburne County Archives and Genealogical Society' Researcher. An initial connection will likely enable you to determine whether you’ll be researching in the ‘right spot’.

You can connect at 1-902-875-4299 or email gencentre@ns.sympatico.ca. Snail mail P.O Box 248, SHELBURNE, NS B0T1W0.  Visit the website.

You’ll get to touch the documents, breathe the air and explore the area that your ancestors once called home. Perhaps you’ll find that Great Uncle’s or Aunt’s last resting place, Cousins you never knew you had or solve a family mystery. The Shelburne County Archives and Genealogical Society is open April through October and advance coordination is typically required. Winter hours are by appointment only.
